Time to save up for a new bag :)

11 Jan

Been going through my stuff the other day & realized that I have been a very good girl for the past 3 yrs. Good girl in a sense that I haven’t spent a ridiculous amount of money on a bag. My last big splurge was back in 2009 & now I have “itchy hands.” Disclaimer: I use my own money buying these — as Mr. T would call it — expensive dust collectors 🙂

Whenever I buy  something “big” I make sure that it will be a timeless classic, something I can hand down to my future daughter. I avoid trendy colors, shapes & materials, so all of my bag splurges are either black, brown or beige & in leather. I also ask myself these questions: Will it still look good even after an X number  of years? Is the material strong enough for the usual wear & tear? Will the color be easy to match to any casual or not so casual outfit? How heavy will the bag be? Am I buying from a reputable & trusted brand? (I added brand to my checklist because of a terrible experience with Anya Hindmarch before, although Mr. T gave me that bag)

These questions might sound trivial to some, but that’s what I always ask myself whenever I’m on the hunt for that 1 big buy. Obviously, these things take time. You have to know what you really want. You have to think hard if you are willing to spend THAT much on a bag. Most important of all, you have to have the means to buy the bag. I’m not the type to sell things in my closet just so that I can afford to buy an expensive bag. If I can’t afford the bag, then that’s just that. Personally, I think that selling 2 or more of my old bags to make way for a new “baby” is a sign that it’s not time yet. Shallow, but that’s how I see it. I also do not buy second hand bags because I’m afraid of authenticity issues + the smell of brand new leather you get as soon as you open the huge box full of crisp tissue is all part of the happy experience. You ladies all know what I’m talking about right? ;p

I have already set aside a piggy bank aptly called “Bag Fund” & hopefully I get to save enough moolah before this year ends! haha!! I’m not in a rush anyway… besides my birthday is half a year away, so if ever *crossing my fingers* Mr. T decides to add to my “Bag Fund” I will have a bigger budget.

Here are a few bags I am considering:

The Antigona bag by Givenchy. It looks so clean & spacious. Moms like me need a lot of space! It comes in neutral & two-toned hues, but boring me prefers the all black one with the gold hardware. This retails around $2,500.

Givenchy medium Antigona Duffel Bag

The Marquises Sac by Goyard. Although I have an issue with Goyard’s bags chipping easily due to the delicate print of the brand – which is hand painted by their artisans… this bag of theirs I’m liking a lot. Mainly because of the simple shape & the signature wooden slats that took its inspiration from the House’s iconic trunk. It’s practical, yet chic. This retails around $1,800.00. The colored ones (blue, red, yellow, etc.) sell at a more expensive price.

Goyard Marquises

Selling at $1,200.00, this is the most “affordable” among all the bags I am lusting for. This is the Loewe Ame tote bag, which comes in other bright colors. I love how low key this bag looks like. It does not scream “look at me!” yet, it looks very elegant & classy. Again, this bag can carry all your essentials.

I am in love with this next bag by Celine! It’s a fresh new look compared to their more famous line, the Celine Luggage Tote. The rich camel color is just perfect & again, it is very low key 🙂 It has 3 zipper compartments & the largest one is big enough to hold a laptop. Now that’s what I call space! I saw this first at Takashimaya in Singapore mid last year & I’ve been eyeing it ever since. This beauty retails at $1,900.00 & just like the luggage tote, it comes in different colors, variations & material.

Celine Triptyque

This is part of the Chanel Cruise 2012 collection & I’m not really sure what the name is. Does anyone know? I also have no idea how much this is selling in stores, but I’m guessing it would be nothing below $3,000. I love how form & function mix in the bag’s design. Anything from Chanel = ♥

Chanel

Bottega Venetta is one brand I don’t usually pay attention to, but their Roma Intrecciato leather tote has made me notice them. I read in TIME magazine once that Bottega Venetta is the world’s most luxurious brand & when I walked around the Bottega boutique, with the Roma Intrecciato tote on one arm, I understood why. This bag is definitely a classic & unfortunately at $3,400, it is wayyyy over my budget.

Bottega Venetta

Last but not the least, is the Sofia Coppola Calf leather bag of Louis Vuitton. Now if money were no object, I would buy 2 of these. One in red & one in cobalt (or a rich, dark blue) but since I have to choose one, I’d definitely go for the cobalt. I’ve seen & held the bag in person and it was lust at first sight. Honestly, I’m not a Louis Vuitton fan, but this one is an exception. Unlike other bag lines of the French brand, this design is very simple & sleek. Not riddled with emblems, no frills, just the way I like it. This is also available in suede, but due to maintenance issues, I’d rather go for the Calf leather. At a whopping $4,650, this bag may never be mine! haha! ;p

So there you have it. Judging by the price range of the bags I have short listed for my next big buy… looks like it’ll take me a few years — and a leg — to fill up my “bag fund” piggy bank. Let’s hope that I have a change of heart in the near future & drop everything, but for now, let these bags serve as a driver for me to save 🙂

Happy Tuesday guys!
